Anfang Shipping – Office Design Inspired by the Interior of a Ship

A Functional, Nautical-Inspired Workspace in Taipei

This project focuses on functional spatial planning for the corporate office of Anfang Shipping Company.
Instead of adding elaborate décor or excessive stylistic elements, the design takes inspiration from the layout and ambiance of a ship cabin, creating a space that is both practical and subtly thematic.

Ground Floor: Reception and Workspace Optimization

The first floor is dedicated to the reception area and staff workstations.
To optimize spatial flow and efficiency, we relocated the staircase from the right side of the entrance to the left.
This adjustment not only expanded the employee workstation area, but also aligned the overall circulation with natural movement patterns.

Importantly, the new layout allows visitors to access the second-floor meeting room without crossing into the employee zone, enhancing privacy and professionalism.

Improved Vertical Circulation and Balcony Access

By repositioning the staircase, we also enabled direct access to the balcony upon reaching the second floor — providing staff with a convenient outdoor area that supports internal events and casual break moments.

Materiality and Mood: Stability Meets Warmth

To evoke the feeling of a ship’s interior, we selected a palette of black metal accents paired with warm wood finishes.
This contrast creates an atmosphere of both solidity and warmth, reinforcing the brand identity of a reliable maritime company.

Large glass windows on the second floor introduce transparency and brightness, balancing the darker tones and making the space feel open yet grounded.
Just like a ship led by its captain, this office environment symbolizes leadership, cohesion, and forward momentum.
