Forging Identity Through Design: A Metalworks Office in Taichung
Houng Yu Industrial – Where Function Meets Form
Stepping into this office space, one doesn’t simply enter a workplace — they encounter a spatial embodiment of corporate identity.
Located in the Taichung Industrial Zone, this project was created for Houng Yu, a company specializing in precision sheet metal fabrication.
The client envisioned an office that not only fulfills daily functional needs, but also showcases their craftsmanship as part of the design.
Through a close collaboration between Woosha Design and Houng Yu’s fabrication expertise, we transformed metalwork into design elements — from the reception counter and furniture to the lighting, railings, and even the fire hose cabinet — infusing the workspace with the company’s core spirit.
The Brand Wall: A First Impression with Impact
The original factory building had two main entrances, which posed a challenge in creating a clear visual hierarchy.
We used distinct forms and materials to differentiate the two facades, while guiding visitors toward the primary entry point.
Inside, a bold metal reception desk anchors the lobby, emphasizing visual focus.
A custom-designed shield motif made from triangular metalwork, paired with tech-inspired lighting beams, forms a symbolic brand wall — a striking emblem of strength and innovation.
The all-metal reception desk features clean lines and dynamic geometry, offering both durability and aesthetic presence.
The combination of metal and wood softens the coldness of steel, introducing a warm texture to daily-use furniture.
This interplay of materials creates a tactile and welcoming environment, where visitors immediately sense a balance between tech-forward design and human warmth.
Overhead, a custom-crafted central pendant light made of curved steel demonstrates the precision of Houng Yu’s engineering.
It's more than illumination — it’s a sculptural statement about lighting the future of the company.
Continuity Through Design
The staircase pendant lighting extends from the first to the second floor, establishing vertical cohesion.
The design language continues upstairs, where a world map feature wall in black metal cabinets and textured finishes reflects Houng Yu’s global outlook and commitment to detail.
Custom-Designed Furniture: Function with Identity
Unlike most offices furnished with off-the-shelf systems, this space features fully customized workstations and sideboards, tailored to the layout and operational needs.
Even the fire hose cabinet was redesigned — meeting code requirements while aligning visually with the rest of the space.
Each custom piece showcases Houng Yu’s technical skill and fabrication flexibility.
A Steel-Strong Corporate Identity
The new office of Houng Yu is more than a place of work — it’s a tangible extension of the company’s values.
In an era where traditional industries face hiring challenges, an upgraded office environment is essential not only for functionality but for talent attraction and brand positioning.
By replacing outdated stereotypes of metalworking as “dirty labor” with a vision of precision, comfort, and future-forward design, this office signals a new era for the industry.
