One-Heart Mansion Taichung
The client for this project is a junior high school principal and a retired teacher, both with interests in calligraphy and Buddhist practices. The design direction focused on qualities such as elegance, order, and a Zen-inspired aesthetic.
The architectural exterior features a calm gray-and-white color palette, combining cultured stone and white exposed aggregate concrete. These materials are arranged using a framing design language to define the building’s form.
Located across from a permanent green belt (a public park), the home is designed to draw this lush greenery into the living environment. Generous landscaping along the park-facing façade enhances this connection, while the outdoor areas are complemented by dry gardens and unique stone arrangements, enhancing the meditative quality of the home.
The building is oriented east–west, with the stairwell positioned on the south side. To avoid making the staircase a dark, neglected corner, the exterior wall of the stairwell is designed with vertical slatted screens, allowing natural light to penetrate and keeping the space bright.
