YANG MANSION
Residential Design
YANG MANSION 台中市
The residence is located in the Fengyuan District of Taichung, with the client prioritizing functionality-focused space planning.
In the early design stages, we carefully considered the needs of each family member to ensure that every area serves its purpose while also encouraging interaction and connection within the household.
Specific requirements such as a shared study room, spacious dining area, residential elevator, suite for elderly parents, ensuite bathrooms, walk-in closets, and a helper’s room were all incorporated into the planning process from the outset — ensuring smooth circulation and everyday convenience.
An Open and Connected Living Space
We introduced the concept of "spatial transparency" as the core design philosophy.
By using a mix of open and semi-open layouts, we broke free from the limitations of traditional walls, creating a sense of flow and visual openness throughout the home.
As you step into the entryway, you're greeted by a full-height glass wall, bringing in lush greenery from the outside. The transparent staircase leading to the second floor enhances the sense of calmness and connection with nature.
From the living room to the dining area and kitchen, the layout flows seamlessly, allowing the eye to travel uninterrupted from the front to the backyard.
This open configuration encourages natural, frequent interaction among family members and enhances the overall living experience.
A Light-Filled Courtyard Core
Long and narrow townhouse structures often face challenges with natural lighting.
One major benefit of custom-designed homes is the ability to address such issues during the early planning stages.
We introduced a central lightwell (atrium) to draw sunlight deep into the interior.
This vertical opening allows natural light to cascade through each level, making the entire space brighter and more vibrant.
Strategically placed at the core of the layout, the lightwell offers both illumination and privacy, ensuring that every bedroom enjoys daylight while also enabling visual and emotional connection among family members across floors.
A Flexible, Multi-Purpose Space
Despite the generous floor area of townhouses, the layout can sometimes lead to less interaction among family members.
To bring the household closer together, we created various shared areas that encourage togetherness.
In addition to the open-plan ground floor and central lightwell, we designed a multi-purpose room that can easily adapt to the family's changing needs — whether as a playroom, reading corner, or home gym.
This space showcases the versatility and freedom that thoughtful design can offer.
Minimalist Architecture with Depth
The client favored a clean white aesthetic, so the building’s exterior was designed using a composition of solids and voids.
By offsetting volumes and incorporating framed architectural elements, the white facade remains minimal yet dynamic — offering visual interest and a clear sense of character.
This approach preserved the refined simplicity of the design while enhancing the home’s personality and identity.
The design of the Yang Residence reflects a commitment to spatial fluidity and the importance of family life.
Through the strategic use of light, openness, and layered layouts, the home feels both functional and emotionally engaging.
With a balance of openness and enclosure, solids and transparencies, the result is a home that not only works — but resonates.
